Welcome to the USIS Careers SERVICE

The jobs industry has never been so competitive. In finance especially, the chances of getting a job are slim and the competition fierce. This year, we will seek to increase the odds of career success in all industries by organising recruitment events with other Northern universities to try and pool recruiter activity. We also seek to push more students into roles in the city, placing Sheffield University on the recruiter's radars.

The University of Sheffield Investment Society seeks to help students interact with the careers services currently on offer within the University. We also strongly advise students to take part in spring weeks, summer internships and year placements to give them a competitive edge in the jobs market. Younger students in the society benefit from being part of a network of the most ambitious and motivated students and can tap them for advice.

There are a number of resources provided by the University of Sheffield which the investment society highly recommend to members.

  1.  Students from all year groups should attend regular careers talks. We will update our website with the ones which are finance related. Departmental ones are available on career connect.

  2. Students should get involved with the careers mentoring scheme in which they can be mentored by an alumnus in industry who can give valuable insight, tips and support when applying for jobs.

  3. Look at the careers guides for guides on: assessment centres, CVs, spring weeks and graduate schemes.

  4. Women have been typically under-represented in business, finance, commercial law and engineering. If you are a woman interested in any of these, please check out Women in Business for specialist support and guidance. We run collaborative events with Women in Business during the year.

  5. Should you wish to speak to any of our committee members for one-to-one career mentoring, please email cwalkerprosser1@sheffield.ac.uk to be matched to a student with experience in your preferred division of investment banking or sales and trading.
