Welcome to USIS 2010/11

The new committee have been busy over the summer break to bring the investment society on track for the new academic year. We'd like to extend a warm welcome to you, and we hope to see you at the freshers fair if you're interested in joining the society. We're working on getting new speakers, trading games, socials and financial workshops for our members, so it promises to be an interesting year. Our meetings will continue to be on Tuesday evenings and will start up in October.

The Investment Society AGM March 9th

The Investment Society AGM will be held on the 9th of March at 18:00 in building 2. Please email invest@soton.ac.uk with the place you would like to stand for should you wish to be on the USIS committee next year. The positions available are president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and media/comms.

Being part of a committee always looks very good on a CV - and with competition for jobs in the City as strong as ever, you cannot afford to miss out on this opportunity! It is the perfect chance to provide learning opportunities to your fellow students, as well as meeting lots of interesting people and learning about working in finance.

Chris Evans on 'Changes in the Financial Markets'

Interview/Assessment Centre Q&A

On the 9th of February we will be running an exclusive event available to USIS members. We will be holding a Q&A session to help those with interviews or assessment centres over the coming months - with refreshments provided! We have a number of members who have attended interviews and assessment centres for a range of roles who will be there to field any questions.

If you are interested in learning more about the questions or exercises you are likely to be asked, OR if you have some experience of the recruitment process and feel you could help a fellow member, come along!

Tim Bolton Carter

The next speaker at USIS will be Tim Bolton Carter. Tim Bolton Carter is the Regional Director of Rathbone Investment Management. He is coming to speak on 'Diversity: Perils in portfolio construction'. This event will be taking place on Tuesday 24th November at 6pm in Building 2. I hope to see you all there!
